Does your school have a math curriculum that meets the needs of all your students and teachers? Do you find yourself supplementing your textbook with materials from the internet? Do you ever wonder if math centers are really a better way to meet the needs of your kids than whole class instruction? Do you ever wish somebody would just hand you a great curriculum so you could focus on teaching the lessons well instead of writing them yourself?
If this sounds familiar, join Greg Tang for his virtual grade 1-6 workshop Lesson Structure & Design. Greg will share his “less is more” approach to planning, structuring, and leading more effective math lessons.
After helping thousands of teachers improve understanding and test scores by simplifying what they teach and how they teach it, Greg is now helping to simplify the structure and design of their lessons, too. In this new workshop, you won’t just hear about effective lesson design and delivery – you will experience it yourself.
Greg will use a simple, 3-part lesson structure to teach each mini lesson:
Part 1. Exploration – anchor task or “low floor high ceiling problem”
Part 2. Whole Class Instruction – teacher-led, virtual math talk
Part 3. Application or Reflection – online as a class or offline later
Greg will offer thoughts and insights to help you design and deliver more effective lessons, including tips on writing problems, leading math talks, and assessing learning. Key topics we will address include:
You have the option of joining us for our morning session, afternoon session, or both sessions. No matter what option you choose, our goal is to:
1. Increase your confidence and ability to plan, structure and lead more effective math lessons.
2. Improve your math content knowledge and understanding of key skills, strategies and standards.
3. Help you select better problems and activities for whole class instruction, cooperative group work and independent practice.
Are you ready for a simpler, more streamlined and effective approach to teaching and learning? Are you ready to experience virtual instruction firsthand? Then join Greg Tang for Lesson Structure & Design. Math will never be the same!
In our grade 1-6 afternoon session, we will:
1. Correct misconceptions about number lines and fractions.
2. Use visual models to multiply & divide at every grade level.
2. Build fluency and automaticity through games and activities.
